Driver Alertness Monitoring

Driver drowsiness or awareness detection systems use cameras or other sensors in the vehicle cockpit to determine if a driver’s attention is still on the road and on operating the vehicle safely.

Most systems track eye blinking rates, face and gaze direction. Some may also monitor hand position and steering accuracy.

In the event that the system’s inputs no longer meet minimum accepted criteria, it may use audio and visual alerts, and possibly force feedback through the steering wheel, to regain the driver’s attention.
